I contacted Carson Roofing and Building because I had multiple roof leaks at my chimney flashings and 2 valleys, all of which emerging in the recent storms and heavy rain. I called many companies to pursue a solution, but the person who stood out the most was Gary. Whilst I am no expert on roofs, I just felt Gary was the man with the knowledge and honesty for the job.
I can say that I did not regret my decision. I received a detailed quote for the job, fully detailing the issues and the work required to solve them, all at a fixed price. Gary started the job when he said he would, and communicated timeously throughout. There were a couple of days when he couldn't get to site as promptly as he wanted (mostly due to the weather) but he always let me know his intentions, which was very much appreciated. Tradesmen aren't known for their communication skills!!
The job is now finished and I am pleased with Gary's workmanship, all of which evidenced by the pictures he took during the work. In my view Gary has a genuine intention to do a job with thoroughness and attention to detail, and I have confidence my leaky roof is fixed. Thank you, Gary.

FULL PITCHED ROOF REPLACEMENT AND CHIMNEY REMOVAL
We replaced the old leaking tiled roof with a brand new one and removed the old chimney for a domestic client. This comes with a company guarantee and peace of mind for many years to come.
SLATE ROOF REPLACEMENT ON A LISTED BUILDING
This old leaking slate roof was replaced with a reclaimed slate roof on a listed 500 year old cottage. This was completed with the approval of the local council.
EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR REFURBISHMENT FOR A COMMERCIAL CLIENT
This refurbishment on behalf of our commercial client involved roofing, joinery, plumbing, electrical work, plastering and painting. We acted as the main contractor and supplied all trades.
BUILDING AND CHIMNEY ROUGHCASTED, ROOF REPAIRED AND BUILDING/CHIMNEY PAINTED
This domestic property had the old defective rough cast replaced on the exterior walls and chimney. As well as the slate roof being repaired and the building and chimney being painted.
FLAT ROOF REPLACEMENT
This property had the roof completely replaced including the timber decking and insulation. The old roof felt was replaced with a new 3 layer traditional felt system as requested by the customer. This comes with a guarantee. A chimney was also re harled and repaired.
VELUX WINDOW REPLACEMENT
This domestic property had the velux windows replaced, slates repaired and gutters cleaned out. No job is too big or small for us and we strive for customer satisfaction on every single job we carry out.
OUR STORY
Carson Roofing & Building Services Ltd was founded by our current company director, Gary Carson Saunders.
Gary is the great grandson of Eddie Carson, Eddie Carson was a professional boxer from Edinburgh, active from 1945-1956. He fought at Bantamweight.
He was a world rated fighter of his time and the reigning Scottish champion from 1949-1954. He had 84 professional fights, winning 55, losing 25, drawing 3 and 1 scored as a no contest. With the majority of those losses coming in the latter stages of his career and 20 of those wins coming by Knockout.
His most notable win was against Jackie Paterson, a British, British empire, European and world champion. Jackie Paterson was inducted into the Scottish sport hall of fame in 2002. Eddie Carson won their bout by way of knockout in the 2nd round.
His most notable loss came against Peter Keenan, a British, British empire and European champion. Eddie lost on points after 12 rounds.
Eddie and Peter are linked in boxings history “for the keenness of their rivalry and the savagery of their battle”.
Much later in response to a journalists suggestion that “Keenan’s toughest foes must have come against Vic Toweel who defeated him for a world title or against Spider Kelly who took Keenans British and British empire title from him, or South African Zulu Jake Tuli, Keenan snorted his dissent. “None of these guys was tougher to fight than Edinburghs Eddie Carson, oh what a tough little ‘so-and-so’ he was”. Keenan also remarked that “Carson was the only guy I ever refused to fight in a rematch, he cut both my eyes”.
Eddie Carson had a colourful life before, during and after boxing and Carson roofing & building services Ltd is named after him in homage.
